Why the weather changes across Costa Adeje
· CostaAdeje.fun
The coast, the hills and Adeje town can have different weather on the same day. Here is why, and how to use our forecast.
Tenerife is famous for its microclimates, and you notice it even within Adeje. The coast can be sunny while Adeje town, only a few kilometres inland and much higher up, sits under cloud.
Why it happens
- Height. Temperature drops as you go uphill. Adeje town is noticeably higher than the beaches, so it is often a few degrees cooler.
- Cloud. Low cloud tends to gather against the hills. The coast is more often clear.
- Wind. The south of the island is sheltered from the trade winds that bring cloud to the north, which is why the south coast is usually the sunniest part of Tenerife.
Calima
Now and then, a hot wind from Africa brings fine dust. The sky turns hazy and yellowish, temperatures can jump and air quality drops. It usually passes within a few days.
